Excel Management Team: Jerry Ou

Jerry Ou joined the Comtel Telcom Assets team in conjunction with Sowood Capital Management. Mr. Ou was an integral part of the team that performed the due diligence and closed on the Vartec / Excel assets. Upon a successful bid of the assets, Mr. Ou was named as Chief Operating Officer. Over the last 18 months, Mr. Ou has been focused on the reorganization of the business by optimizing headcount as well as implementing a new network and a new technological infrastructure.  Mr. Ou has also been repositioning the company as a wholesale company bolstering its marketing efforts into indirect distribution channels.

Mr. Ou previously served as president of Mercantel Communications LP and has been in the telecommunications space for the last seven years. Sowood Capital Management and Mercantel entered into a purchase agreement prior to the purchase of the Vartec/Excel assets. Prior to Mercantel, Mr. Ou worked with Simplified Development – the technology provider for Teleworks – as a Senior Consultant focusing primarily on the Asian-American customer base working with such customers as PCCW.  Mr. Ou, serving as a Business Strategist for Simplified, helped secure initial investment funding with venture capitalists.  Most recently, Mr. Ou was one of the responsible parties involved in creating the wholesale voice division at Dynegy that led to the formation of Teleworks Wholesale Services, LP.

Prior to Simplified, Mr. Ou was a financial analyst with a Goldman Sachs subsidiary structuring mezzanine finance deals that included but were not limited to real estate bond offerings from JP Morgan and the Bank of Tokyo in addition to managing real estate assets for the Goldman Sachs fund and the Archon Group. 

Mr. Ou graduated from Harvard University with an honors degree in Economics
